Graduation gift registries: The new trend?
18.05.12
Gift registries are traditionally created for weddings or baby showers. But now wish lists are popping up for all occasions, especially graduations.
Morgan Sisley is graduating from St. Joseph Academy in Cleveland in a couple weeks. She started preparing for college 2 years ago by taking honors courses and saving money.
"I was given a $3,000 scholarship that was based on merit."
Morgan has also done the math on what it will cost for her four years at Bowling Green University. So, to offset her costs, this soon-to-be high school graduate set up a gift registry to get items for her dorm room.
This is a trend thousands of families will try this graduating season, according to MyRegistry.com.
Sites like these allow users to create "wish lists" of items they need and in the case of graduates, money for tuition and other costs.
"One of the features that is offered is a cash gift fund and it's integrated into the registry, so you don't have to feel uncomfortable that you're asking for cash," says Nancy Lee, president of MyRegistry.com.
