DSW Opens for Business in Mohegan Lake
18.05.12
The highly anticipated and awaited DSW has opened doors in Mohegan Lake.
"We're terribly excited," district manager Amy Findlay told Patch.
Although the "designer shoe warehouse" was expected to officially open doors on Thursday, everything was ready a day earlier and the soft opening was on Wednesday when customers from the area flocked the store to buy their favorite styles.
Findlay said people were pulling on their doors for months and as long as there are people to sell their merchandise to, the store was ready for business.
"I'm excited to have a nice selection of shoes," said Dawn Pellegrino of Yorktown who recently heard the store was opening and decided to check it out after work. "It's fun to have it so close to home. It's a great store."
She said while she likes the selection of merchandise, but she would have liked to see children's shoes – something that was missing.
"It absolutely adds to the retail area," Pellegrino said of DSW.

Las Cruces teens ready to make prom memories
18.05.12
LAS CRUCES — Amanda Madried, 18, spied a white dress. It fit her small frame well, with modest ruffles from the waist down.
She looked at herself in the mirror of Renee's Bridal in Las Cruces, her aunt and uncle looking on proudly. "I think I found it," she said. "I've been looking all day. It's harder than I thought."
Like thousands of other high school seniors and juniors across the nation, she was on the hunt for that perfect dress to wear to the prom.
The Mayfield High School senior spent Good Friday — a spring holiday on the school district calendar — looking for this dress to match the "Zeus' Palace" theme of her prom set for Saturday night at The Grapevine.
"I think it's going to be really fun and it's my first prom," she said with a shy smile. "It's supposed to be a night to remember — there's no college prom."
"This is kind of neat," Madried's aunt, Kelly Martin, said. "She's living my dream."
