26th Annual Ladies Night held in Ceylon
Women from Ceylon, Hardy, Pangman, Radville, Minton, Gladmar, Bengough, Weyburn and surrounding communities gathered for an evening that began with a planned pot luck supper fit for a queen, or in this case approximately 135 queens. The supper included a variety of chickens dishes, turkey and dressing, sausages, perogies, meatballs, scalloped potatoes, home made buns, salads of every colour and ingredients from jellied to rice, fruit and macaroni.
Emcee, Wanda Sorensen kept the evening program lively and entertaining. After the ladies finished the main meal they were entertained with a fashion show of vintage to recent bridal gowns modeled by local ladies. Some wore their own gowns, while the oldest gown modeled was from 1931. It was Lillian (Guest) Rowland’s gown. The Rowland wedding was the first to be held in the Hardy United Church.
Door prizes were aplenty and were drawn for as everyone enjoyed their choice of dessert – an assortment of cheese cakes, brownies and a beverage. Tables were decorated in an Easter theme with blues, pinks and yellows and each table was adorned with the plush animal centre piece. These little critters were also drawn for; so many ladies went home with a prize of some kind.
