Wedding Dress Trends: Michael C. Fina Reveals Hottest Style For 2012, Statement Necklaces

Warmer weather means wedding season is right around the corner. Say goodbye to dainty jewelry, because this year the bridal trend is all about statement necklaces.

We talked with Richard Wubnig, the jewelry department manager for Michael C. Fina , the must stop location for every bride. Located on Fifth avenue in New York City, Michael C. Fina has been helping celebrate life's milestones for the past 75 years.

Wubnig, who has been in the Michael C. Fina family for almost 11 years, told us about the hottest trends in jewelry for brides right now: Statement necklaces.

According to Wubnig, the change toward statement jewelry stems from the royal wedding last year. Kate Middleton's gorgeous gown is leading brides towards "simple more sophisticated" dresses said Wubnig. For these simpler dresses dainty jewelry will no longer do the trick. In order to show personality brides are turning towards statement necklaces.

Prom fashion - rules of school

Due to prom fashions becoming a little skimpier in recent years, questions have resurfaced on what styles are appropriate for a school-based function.

With long slits and cut-out dresses showing up on the red carpet, these styles find their way to prom designers and onto the bodies of younger girls.

Suzanne Giovino, owner of Jon’s Bridal by Suzanne in Allentown , says her shop caters more to the classy, elegant style of prom that is more bridal-inspired. There are many new fashion trends including more ruffles and bold patterns that are current and stylish, but are also more suited for teenagers attending a school function. She says she has not sold a lot of the more risque, cut-out dresses that were popular last year and are making a resurgence again this year.

But part of this, she says, is due to many girls coming in from schools that just won’t allow these dresses.

Hair and makeup trends for the big day

With the stresses on the big day along with the chance of warm weather, brides may worry about their makeup running or feeling as though it’s too thick on their face. Kirsten suggested using an airbrush to apply the foundation.

“It stands up to heat, humidity, tears, you know there are those tears of joy on that day, and it’s a very sheer, long wearing coverage” said Brusse. The light coverage also provides a more natural look.

When it comes to eye makeup, Kirsten said incorporating pastel colors gives a classic look. She used a lilac color on the lid and a neutral color along the crease of the eye. If brides are looking to incorporate trends, try using a pop of color, like tangerine, on the lip.

Having the right hair style will finish the bridal look.

Michelle Skrobish took inspiration from the wedding dress and brought it into the hair style. Since the dress had rosettes, the hair too had a few. In addition, the style of the dress was 30s and 50s inspired so the hair was loose and flowing in the front.
