Redcar mum excited for Olympic run and wedding
She said: “I told them that I became overweight after having my son in 2001 and being a single mum with a disabled child, and holding down a full time job, wasn’t making it very easy to lose the weight.
“I started doing one exercise class a week and got the fitness bug. I then started running as I found this was a great way to find time for myself, a brilliant stress relief and a way to lose weight and get fit.”
Since then Nicola, who has lost three-and-a-half stone, has entered several 5km races and last year did the Great North Run to raise money for the National Autistic Society, which has helped her following her son Jay being diagnosed with autism.
And, fittingly, 10-year-old Jay will not only see his mum carry the torch at 7am on June 18 before he heads off to Kirkleatham Hall School, he’ll then have his special role at the wedding to look forward to.
Nicola admits bringing up an autistic child on her own wasn’t easy. She said: “He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was two and severe epilepsy when he was three, but we didn’t get the autism diagnosis until he was seven.
Daryl Hall takes his newest collaboration on tour
“But the Internet allows you to turn everything upside down,” says Hall, on the phone this week from his house in Dutchess County, N.Y., where Live From Daryl’s House is filmed. “You don’t have to deal with any gatekeepers. It allows you to basically have your own station and do whatever you want to do.”
This month, with 55 shows under his belt, the latest of which teams him with Cee-Lo Green of The Voice and “F— You” fame, what Hall wants to do is take Live From Daryl’s House on the road.
On an eight-date tour, Hall is being joined by funk-soul belter Sharon Jones and his fair-haired protégé Allen Stone, in what’s being billed as the Live From Daryl’s House: Nu-Soul Revue. Along with Philadelphia cheesesteak impresario Tony Luke Jr., who will serve up the culinary aspect of what’s become part of the LFDH format, the show comes to the Music Box at the Borgata Hotel & Casino in Atlantic City on Saturday.
Back when Live From Daryl’s House was just an idea being batted around with associates such as his longtime bass player Tom “T-bone“ Wolk, who died in 2010, what Hall wanted to do most was find a way to play music on his own terms with his own band at his own house.
After 8 years, rosary still missed
, Who made the pilgrimage with fellow church members in 2004. While there, she bought keepsake rosaries for each member of her family.“My mother had each of the rosaries blessed by the bishop of Medugorje, and since she was there for five days she would go to Mass every day and bring the rosaries to be blessed by that priest,” Dome said. “They ended their trip by going to Rome. My mother also had the rosaries blessed by Pope John Paul II at a semi-private viewing.”
Blessed green rosary
Energized and spiritually refreshed, Michalczewski returned to the states to bestow upon each member of her family a rosary from one of the holiest places on earth.
“Eight years ago my daughter Kelly was in second grade at St. Jude,” Dome said. “She bought Kelly a green one. Kelly brought it to school in a brown suede pouch and showed her teachers and students. She left it in her desk and the next day it was missing.”
