Any ring will work! It does NOT have to be a diamond at all! Nor does it have to be a solitaire! That notion was created by the diamond industry to sell more diamonds. Pick whatever you like as your engagement ring, it doesn't matter if it's "too everyday", an engagement ring is worn EVERY day, therefore whatever you want and is comfortable

Tungsten carbide is an extremely durable substance. It's highly unlikely that it would erode, unless you used it with highly abrasive materials. In a non-industrial setting, you would be hard pressed to find a material that could even scratch this type of ring. The color won't wear off.
