Heading north? Lock up tiara, pack 'only-locals-know' shortcuts

The signs are all there.

The car carriers, the boxes stacked on the sidewalk in front of R.S.V.P., and the hurricane shutters mean that the northbound migration has begun.

OK, so you’re packing up. But you’re not leaving. Nobody ever leaves Palm Beach behind. Chances are you’re going to a place just like it — with a few minor differences.

Palm Beach, the Hamptons, the Cape and Islands, Aspen, Newport, Asheville ... all are seasonal towns with the seasonal town quirks. The townies resent the influx of the summer/winter people. Obscenely expensive cars refuse to share the road with battered Volvos. The little white summer dogs yip and snap at laid-back, lumbering Labs. Summer kids grab all the spots in the municipal day camp programs. Can’t get a parking space at the grocery store or a table at the restaurant where, in the slow season, they greet you like a rock star. The summer folks cause a jack in the prices at the art festivals.

Dakota Fanning Doesn't Look Angelic in Weird 'Halo' Headband

For a Vanity Fair party at the Tribeca Film Festival , she wore an eye-popping pink Lanvin dress that showed off her slim figure and youthful, fresh skin. And her blonde hair looked pretty and unassuming falling over her shoulders -- but then there was that weird halo looking thing on her head that really threw off the entire look. Can someone please tell me what exactly was going on there?

I can't decide if this is some sort of headband that slipped and fell across her forehead, or a form of tiara gone horribly wrong. Either way -- this look definitely wasn't workin' for her.

If you are a girl that is going to prom, I’m sure you already started your countdown to Saturday months ago. Hair appointments have — well, hopefully have — been made, the nail salon has been scouted out, and you are just ready to finally get to wear the dress you searched so hard to find.

Even with almost all of the stones in place, one thing still may be missing. How in the world should you actually style your hair? Of course, you could go with the perfectly pinned up-do or beachy-waves … but what style will actually look good with your dress?

The strapless dress: This dress is probably the easiest one to find a hairstyle that will match. If you look to the red carpet, you will see that many celebrities, such as Megan Fox , rock a very long, wavy, Veronica Lake hairstyle. Those with short hair can create a style with more beach-wave-curls or even a Taylor Swift-esque updo.

The princess dress: As tempting as it may be, don’t wear a tiara to prom. There are so many other ways to style your hair, with bling included, that can create that royal feel. Instead of a tiara, focus on other possible accessories. Use silver or gold, depending on the color of your dress, headbands or hair pieces to add some bling. You could try a double-strapped headband like this , or this leafy life headband worn by Diane Kruger . With the princess dress, I really like to see hair pulled at least half up. Full down hair, with a full gown, can be very heavy looking. Keep hair simple and let your dress do the talking.
